Selection

Hawks athletes should aim to compete at the National Champs
Athletics NZ will publish selection guidelines for the National Champs. A Waikato team will be selected to compete at the National Champs. The selection criteria is advised in the AWBOP handbook. If you are not selected, you may still compete at the National Champs, representing the Hawks.

Athletics Waikato BOP Funding

Athletes selected in an Athletics Waikato BOP team for a National Champs held outside of Waikato or Auckland will receive funding assistance from Athletics Waikato BOP.

Hawks Funding

Funding assistance will also be available for Hawks members for the National Championships. The committee will make grants to athletes based on the following criteria and weighting:

Athletic Performance (50%)

For athletes who have reached the Athletics Waikato selection standards.

Supporting the club (25%)

For members who have regularly attended clubnights, competed in club events, been available for Hawks teams, introduced new members and assisted in the smooth running of the club.

Fundraising (25%)

For members who have shown a willingness to assist with club fundraising activities.

Athletes may qualify for travel assistance in any or all of the three criteria.

Waikato BOP Secondary Schools Track & Field League 2008

This is a major initiative by Hamilton City Hawks to develop Track & Field at Secondary School level. It has been very successful and last year there were a record number of schools and athletes participating. This competition is ideal preparation for the National Secondary Schools Champs.

Make sure your school is well represented. We also encourage school athletes in the Hamilton area to join Hamilton City Hawks Athletics through the Schools Membership Scheme if you are not already part of a club.

The League offers:

• Team based Track & Field Competition
• Good opportunity for athletes preparing for the NZ Sec Schools Track & Field championships in Hamilton 13 – 14 December
• No upper or lower limit on team size
• Wednesdays 5.30 pm, Porritt Stadium, Hamilton
  • Round 1 Wednesday 29 October
  • Round 2 Wednesday 5 November
  • Round 3 Wednesday 12 November
  • Round 4 Wednesday 19 November
